Nigel has been playing bass for nearly 20 years. He has studied classical double bass at the conservatorium of music in Tasmania and jazz improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts.
Nigel has performed throughout Australia with huge numbers of great artists including Mark Isaacs, Fiona Boyes, George Washingmachine, Kelly Auty and Billy Whitton (who he performs with regularly).
He is a regular on the local gig seen where he is also first call bass player for visiting and local performers. Other credits include Stage shows, musicals, recording dates and festivals throughout Australia. Nigel has work in many styles of music including Jazz, Classical, Blues, Rock, African, Latin and many more. He has recently gained a passion for Spanish and Indian music.
Teaching is also a passion of Nigel’s, having taught for many years in the public and private school systems. He has taught on a 1 to 1 basis, small groups and classes as well as conducting master classes. His ultimate goal is to run an Australian bass camp that will feature international bass players in residence.
Nigel’s strength as a composer and arranger continues to grow, having now composed works for three solo shows and numerous recordings including video and dance productions. Nigel’s original compositions are drawn directly from his diverse musical history but some how come out sounding uniquely original and fresh. He has always got a new tune on the go and is looking for more outlets in witch he can distribute his work.
